About Thanos Chrysanthopoulos

I am a Greek native speaker, an official translator & subtitler (EL, EN, FR, ES) and a freelance stage translator.

Thanos Chrysanthopoulos is a graduate of the Department of Foreign Languages, Translation and Interpretation from the Ionian University, Corfu, Greece where he was awarded a BA in Translation (2016) and a MA in Translation Studies (2018) by the same institution. He was a founding member of a theatrical company «Θεατρική Ομάδα Κρούσης» where he translated avant-garde plays of Tennessee Williams. He also has experience having worked as a freelance translator and subtitler for many major companies (Hippeis Media, Firstlight Media AB, Haymillian Media). Moreover, his main interests reside in the areas of Audiovisual Translation, Literary Translation, Theory & Praxis of (Stage) Translation, Feminist and Queer Translation, Power Relations & Ideology, Political Discourse Analysis. He currently participates in a “La traducción de sexualidades en tensión en textos literarios feministas y LGBT+” [(awarded a research grant by the Secretary of Science and Technology of Universidad Nacional de Córdoba) Res. SECyT N° 411/18, November 5, 2018. Guillermo Badenes, director, Josefina Coisson codirector. Facultad de Lenguas. Universidad Nacional de Córdoba. Años 2018/2021]. His contribution focuses on the poetry of sexuality of Constantine Cavafy. He has also participated in many conferences as a speaker.

Thanos cannot imagine tomorrow without translation. He is always eager to dive into new translation and subtitling projects, because he loves new challenges. As an AVT translation geek, he thinks that Subtitling is his job, Stage Translation is his profession & Audio Description is his inspiration. He never misses an opportunity to translate a legal, political or economic text. His great passion is literary translation, because he feels free to invent himself & play with the intentions of the author. "Translating is staging a play in another language", Hans Sahl said. This is what he believes in. Give him a text and he will do his best for a new translation performance.
